Wynnton Fence Co is a Columbus fence referral service. Tell us what you need fenced and we pass the request to a single local fence company, who phones you and prices the work in writing at no cost. Fence work itself is performed by independent licensed contractors we connect you with.

The second half of what we do is the writing. Fence pricing in most markets is opaque, and the technical detail that decides whether a fence lasts twelve years or twenty is not something homeowners are generally told. So we publish it: what each material runs per linear foot here, what the Columbus ordinance permits, what red Piedmont clay does to a post, and how a slope changes an installation. That material lives in the guides, the glossary and the journal, and it is free to read whether or not you ever ask us for a quote.

Why this city specifically

Columbus is an unusually interesting place to write about fences, for three reasons.

The first is the ground. The Fall Line runs directly through the city, so the soil changes across town: red Piedmont clay to the north, sandier Coastal Plain soil to the south. Clay grips a post and holds water against it. Sand drains and grips less. Advice written for one is wrong for the other, and generic national fencing advice is written for neither.

The second is the ordinance. The Unified Development Ordinance permits fences, walls and hedges up to eight feet in any required yard and any zoning district, with no separate lower front-yard limit. That is more permissive than most Georgia cities, and it means the constraints that matter here are about easements, rights of way and corner visibility rather than about height.

The third is the mix of properties. A quarter acre lot in the postwar neighborhoods, a designated historic district street where a fence needs a Certificate of Appropriateness, and forty acres in Harris County are three different fencing problems, and they all sit inside the same service area.
