What the calculator is using
The per-foot ranges behind these numbers are the same ones published in the cost guide: about $14 to $26 for four foot galvanized chain link, $30 to $48 for six foot treated pine privacy, $34 to $60 for aluminum picket, $38 to $65 for six foot vinyl privacy, and considerably less per foot for woven wire and board fence, which is why acreage is fenced in those rather than in panel.
Height adjusts the per-foot figure, since a taller fence uses more material, longer posts and larger footings. Ground conditions adjust it too: rolling ground means racking or stepping and steep or rocky ground means holes that a machine cannot simply auger. Gates are added as fixed amounts rather than folded into the per-foot price, because that is how fence work is genuinely quoted.
What it cannot see
Access for a machine, how many corners the line has, whether the fence crosses a low spot that holds water, what the covenants require, and whether the property sits in a designated historic district.
